Carved Powder Horn
Although this device was meant for the simple purpose of carrying
gunpowder for muzzle loading muskets, it was engraved with the name of its
owner "Ernst Nibber, Private. Captain George Nagel's Company, Colonel
William Thomson's battalion of Rifel men in camp, 1775". This soldier was
from Burke's County, Pennsylvania. Once again the use of steer horn.
Decorated horns not only tell something of the individual who carried the
piece, but also are examples of Colonial American folk art.
